Still Life Figurative Workshop With
Guest Artist Lindsey Cherek Waller
Still life has long been a cornerstone of artistic practice, allowing artists to explore composition, color, and symbolism. While traditionally focused on inanimate objects—such as fruit, flowers, and everyday items—still lifes often contain figurative elements, either directly through the inclusion of human forms or indirectly through iconography that hints at presence, narrative, and emotion. Throughout history, artists have infused still life with deeper meaning, using objects as symbols of mortality, abundance, or even personal identity. In these paintings, ART 301 Figure Drawing students explored these themes under the guidance of Lindsey Cherek Waller, experimenting with color, form, and conceptual depth to create work that bridges traditional still life with contemporary expression. Their pieces reflect a dialogue between past and present, blending technique with personal interpretation to bring new life to an age-old artistic tradition. This workshop was funded through the PEAK Grant at Francis Marion University, Spring 2025.
